~ If you decide to password your diary during the contest, you will be ousted. For obvious reasons. Same goes for moving to a new URL during the contest.

~ I've decided to offer a gift certificate to Amazon.com instead of a 'care package' - amount TBA. Unless you prefer a package full of trinkets from me.

~ There will be 13 contestants.

~ Please do not be offended if you are not chosen. I will NOT apologize or respond to complaints. A group of un-biased, intelligent, thoughtful judges are helping me choose the diaries. I may be a fan of your diary, but that doesn't automatically give you a spot as a contestant. It's only a game, relax. Don't be pissed at me if you don't make it.

~ Do not sign up if you don't intend to take place in the "Immunity Challenges". This time the challenges are mandatory. Miss more than one (without reason) and you'll be voted off. Participation is necessary.

The following is the criteria for choosing contestants. Please don't take it personally if you are not chosen. If you are not chosen, it doesn't mean that your diary wasn't enjoyable:

~Applications and the diaries associated with them will be reviewed by the judges, including me. We will try to choose a few diaries from each age range. However, the application form is not what decides it. Your diary/personality is usually the most important aspect.

~ This contest is not confined to Diaryland. Diaries hosted on other sites are welcome.

Once the contest begins, here is the schedule:

~ Every Monday an IC topic is issued to the contestants.

~ Every Wednesday the IC entries are due. Links to these entries are posted and the judges vote for the winner.

~ Every Friday the IC winner is announced and the contestants' Tribal Council begins. (Each contestant votes for the person her or she believes should be ousted from the game. You cannot vote for the person that hold immunity.)

~ Tribal Council results are announced Sunday night/early Monday morning.

Tribal Council notes: If you miss the deadline then a vote will be placed for you, but the vote will go for YOU to be ousted. And this is why it is important that you make each tribal council. The person with the most votes against them will be voted off.

If (or when) a contestant is voted off, he or she will do an "exit interview" with genghis-jon. This will serve as your final words/thoughts ala Survivor. I will then add your comments to the "Diary Survivor" web page. You will be taken off the tribal council list at yahoogroups. When it's down to 2 contestants left all of the former ousted contestants will again be subscribed to the group and vote for their choice of "Sole Survivor" Majority wins! You will not be permitted to vote in any other "TC" except for the final one.

"Immunity Challenge" notes: An "IC" will be held for every Tribal Council. On the day of this event, the contestants will be given a topic. Contestants will then write a diary entry (and label it as an IC) pertaining to the topic. The Judges will then vote for the entry they believe should win. Results will be released once the votes are tallied and the contestant with the most votes wins. The person who wins this challenge will be immune in the tribal council that follows. The contestants cannot vote to oust this person. In this contest the Immunity Challenges are mandatory (unless you have an emergency or something. Just try to let me know if missing the IC is unavoidable on that day.) If you miss more than one Immunity Challenge without good reason then you will be voted off in the next Tribal Council. Again, if you don't have time for the competition please don't sign up for the contest.

Other notes:

If you are one of the chosen, check out the other contestants' diaries. Get to know them. Then take it from there. You can vote for whomever you wish and for whatever reason.

If you cannot participate fully then please take out your entry. It isn't fair to the other contestants to have a few people missing tribal councils. A lot of thought and work is going into this contest, so please enter only if you plan on joining in!

This contest was inspired by the TV show Survivor. This contest is in no way related to the show otherwise. It is not sanctioned by CBS, Mark Burnett, Survivor, or Jeff Probst.

It's been brought to my attention that contestants may be hurt emotionally when voted out of the contest. I do agree that it may be slightly upsetting, however, this contest is for entertainment purposes only (just like those freaky psychic hotlines.) Please don't take it too personally if you are voted off. It doesn't mean that your diary isn't great. In fact, all of the diaries involved are amazing. If you think this contest will emotionally scar you in any way then please do not enter. I can't afford to pay for the therapy of both you and me. Just remember, it's only a game.
